Laura has been working with clients to help them through their legal issues in Columbus and surrounding areas for over 10 years.
A graduate with Distinction from Purdue University, Laura earned her law degree from Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law. If you know Laura, then you know she is both competitive and a true Boilermaker who does not talk about IU. Here at Beck Rocker, we don’t hold that against her. Anything Big10 is okay by us (unless it’s That School Down South!)
A versatile lawyer, Laura will continue to work primarily in the areas of family law and personal injury. She will also continue to serve as defense counsel for the Bartholomew County Veterans Treatment Court, a position she feels very strongly about.
Her experience extends to all aspects of family law including dissolution, paternity, custody, parenting time, child support, adoption, guardianships, etc.
Laura also handles personal injury cases representing individuals who are injured due to the negligence and fault of third parties.
Laura has served in advocacy roles, as well as in the role of guardian ad litem, mediator, and court-appointed counsel. Laura also has training in and is Registered as both a Domestic Relations mediator and a Civil mediator.
These different roles in different practice areas have given Laura the opportunity to see cases from different perspectives and the ability to be creative in pursuing litigation and working out amicable resolutions.
Any case that Laura works on is treated individually taking into account the interests of the client and the outcome being sought. In many cases, parties do not want to go through Court and partake in contested hearings. In these cases, mediation may be the best course of action. Other cases require aggressive litigation and representation if mediation is unsuccessful. Whether it is a personal injury case or family law case, the emotional, and sometimes physical, impact is devastating, and effective representation is important.
Personal injury is not just limited to automobile and trucking accidents. Personal injury can involve medical malpractice, professional negligence, fire and explosion cases, insurance coverage disputes, slip-and-fall cases, etc. The list is extensive. Any time there is a legal issue or accident, it is important to involve an attorney you trust as early in the process as possible to help protect your legal rights. Usually after an accident, prompt action is needed to obtain accident reports, preserve evidence, and investigate the case. Most importantly, the injured client needs an advocate. Regardless of the type of family law or personal injury case, Laura is here to act as a strong advocate and can be successful in negotiating a settlement agreement or, if necessary, litigating the case in the courtroom in front of a judge.
Laura prefers to refer to herself as an “assertive” attorney, as opposed to an aggressive attorney, but no one ever believes her (we do not either). Laura has been called a few choice words here and there as a result, but is should be considered a compliment if it comes from the adverse side, right? After about ten minutes of meeting Laura, you will realize that she does not sugar-coat anything and will provide direct and honest responses to inquiries and questions. Nonetheless, Laura enjoys working with clients to understand their unique situations and working out how to resolve or improve their situation.
If you are looking for Laura at the office, she is pretty easy to identify. Laura’s previous MO (modus operandi) was to wear high (and we mean high) and colorful high heels. While Laura no longer wears heels, she has resorted to having long and bright finger nails. She affectionately refers to them as her “claws.”
